Acne Scar Removal Options - no scars please!

For people who suffer from acne, the only thing worse is acne scars - those marks that are left behind as a constant reminder of what you went through while dealing with acne. Quite a bit of research has gone into acne scar removal, and some methods for acne scar removal have proven to be very effective.

Acne scar removal can be both painful, and expensive. In most cases, it will take more than one round of treatment to get the best results, and often, even with the best results, the scars are not completely removed, but are greatly diminished and less noticeable. Most acne scar removal treatments are done in the dermatologist’s office, and the patient is sedated.

The newest method for acne scar removal is laser skin resurfacing. Using a laser, the scarred skin is vaporized, leaving the layer of unscarred skin below the vaporized skin visible. Doctors are recommending laser skin resurfacing more than other treatments due to the fact that the results seem to be better, and fewer recurring treatments are necessary. While this method has been proven to be quite effective, other older methods of acne scar removal are also still used.

Dermabrasion is probably the widest known and used method of acne scar removal. A machine is used to literally abrade the skin, removing the top layer. Skin will have a smoother appearance, but the results are not as effective as laser skin resurfacing. Dermabrasion is less expensive than laser skin resurfacing, however.

Chemical peels are also a popular method for acne scar removal. Chemical peels work just like Dermabrasion and laser skin resurfacing, by removing the top layer of skin. But instead of using machinery or lasers, chemicals are used to remove the top layer. The results are about the same as the results that are achieved with Dermabrasion - and chemical peels are usually less expensive.

While laser skin resurfacing, Dermabrasion, and chemical peels are the most popular methods for acne scar removal, injection methods are also used. The injections may contain collagen, or fat taken from other parts of the body. While these injections work well, they do have to be repeated often, and they can be quite expensive. The injections do not actually remove or heal the scars - it

simply hides them by filling them up.

Deep acne scars can be removed with punch grafts. Grafts of skin are taken from other parts of the body, and used to replace the scarred skin. This is a drastic method, and is usually only used for severe acne scars. This is a surgical procedure that is usually done in the hospital, not in the doctor’s office.

Less severe acne scars may be treated with over the counter creams that contain Retin-A. Your dermatologist can also prescribe medications that contain Retin-A for acne scar removal. Again, this will only work for very light scarring. Moderate to severe scarring requires other types of treatment, such as dermabrasion, chemical peels, or laser skin resurfacing.

Everyone is not a candidate for acne scar removal. Many active diseases or pre-existing conditions can prevent you from pursuing acne scar removal treatments. Such diseases or conditions should be discussed with your health care provider before seeking treatment for acne scar removal. Furthermore, if you have an acne breakout during your acne scar removal treatment, that treatment will be discontinued until the outbreak clears up, and there is no sign of infection.

Of course, the best treatment for acne scar removal would be not to get the scars in the first place. Do not pop or squeeze acne pimples, and do not leave acne pimples untreated. If you don’t use anything else, use an antibiotic ointment on the pimples to ensure that the infection clears up properly. However, if you do have acne scars, and you are thinking about acne scar removal, talk with your dermatologist to determine which method will work best for you, keeping in mind that some treatments work well for some people, while different treatments work better for others. Your dermatologist will be able to determine which treatment will work best for you, based on the severity of your acne scars, and your skin type.

Acne Rosacea - How to Effectively Treat Rosacea Symptoms

Acne Rosacea - How to Effectively Treat Rosacea Symptoms

Rosacea - How to Naturally Calm and Eliminate Rosacea and Acne Rosacea

Acne Rosacea and Rosacea are fairly common skin disorders that primarily affect fair skinned people in their 30's and over. While it's exact cause is difficult to pinpoint, the symptoms of Rosacea are obvious in their manifestation on the facial skin.

Typical Rosacea symptoms are a combination of any of the following: Red looking, flushed skin - especially on the nose and the cheeks, small, dilated blood vessels known as telangiectases may appear in the background, inflamed red bumps sometimes with a yellow head (acne rosacea), a shiny, oily appearance to the skin, and roughness, or "orange peel" like texture of the affected skin.

Acne rosacea is the more severe of the two, and definitely is more noticeable, as it not only manifests itself in skin redness, but also in acne-like postules that infect and swell, making the skin bumpy and inflamed.

Rosacea is typically aggravated by alcoholic beverage consumption, hot or spicy foods, some types of common cosmetic ingredients, sun exposure, hot baths, hot tubs, saunas, and the consumption of hot drinks.

People who suffer from Rosacea are typically advised to avoid these triggers, but this of course is not always possible. While it is not possible to actually cure Rosacea, since the underlying cause seems to elude scientists, there are ways of controlling it that are very effective.

The Most Commonly Prescribed Rosacea Treatments

Many who suffer from this skin disorder do seek the advice and prescribing authority of a dermatologist to control it. The most common dermatologist-prescribed method of controlling Rosacea is through the utilization of a topical antibiotic.

While this can be effective in

controlling the problem, it is mostly temporary, and the problem returns immediately after the treatment stops. This can also be a problem for those who may not have the time or the money for the dermatologist visits and prescription refills.

Why Go for a Natural Remedy Rather than a Medical Treatment?

With today's nutraceutical and cosmeceutical advancements, there are so many treatments available that either equal prescription skin care treatments, and even outperform them. The best part is, you don't have to take the time out for the dermatologist appointment, and you don't have to pay the high recurring costs of prescription refills and return appointments.

This holds true for Rosacea and Acne Rosacea treatments also. Many people have had huge success with natural Rosacea treatments and systems - one in particular.

The marriage of pharmaceutical technology and nature has indeed spawned some of the greatest cosmetic correction innovations that we now are able to take advantage of today. With the proper skin care regimen, some lifestyle cautions and common sense avoidances, Rosacea is indeed a treatable skin condition, and it can be treated equally as well without prescription, man-made medications. Natural is always better, and these new and innovative Acne Rosacea products definitely prove just that.

Acne Rosacea - A Blush You Can Do Without

What do former presidents Bill Clinton and Boris Yeltsin have in common? A condition called acne rosacea, a chronic inflammation of the blood vessels in the skin, which causes a ruddy complexion and small acne-like eruptions on the cheeks, forehead and nose.

In men it can often cause the skin on the nose to thicken and swell, leading toa condition called rhinophyma.

Nobody know what causes it but the list of potential triggers is endless. The main culprits are alcohol and rich, spicy foods.

Because its roots are unknown, there's no permanent cure either, so management is the key. This is partly achieved by identifying what makes the rosacea worse through a process of

exclusion and by the use of topical antibiotics - usually metronidazole. A GP's diagnosis is vital since the symptoms can be similar to more serious conditions such as lupus. Rosacea can last a lifetime, especially in men, but often clears up on its own.

Acne Program - Step 12 Change The Way You Think

Your thoughts have a lot to do with why you have acne. Most people will not even give this idea a single thought. You can get rid of acne without changing your way of thinking, but your thoughts will create some other illness that you might not see.

Most illnesses begin with the way you think, the way you are, or your basic philosophy. Your thoughts create chemicals that flow into your blood and affect the function of your entire body.

So if you have acne, it was created by the way you think. If you have ulcers, heart problems, or anything else, these were created by the way you think. Your thinking prevents you from eating and doing the things that you need to do to have good health or clear clean skin.

If you have acne or any disease, it is an opportunity for you to stop and think about why you have it. Acne is an expression of your thinking. Everything about you – the way you walk, the way you talk, the way you dress, that way you eat, the diseases you come down with, the way you do everything – originates in your thought process.

Here is one place to start your self-examination.

Start by being more accepting of yourself. What I have learned in the past is that no matter how much you put yourself down or how critical you are of yourself, it will not change the world around you. The world and you are still the same.

So, just get over it. Stop fighting who you are.

Accept yourself as you are and get on with the purpose of your life. Just get on with it. Don’t worry about what other people are thinking and doing. That’s their problem not yours.

You need to learn how to “face yourself.” When you have acne you may not want to look at yourself and “face who you are?”

If you have acne, there is always some underlying emotions and feelings that

are being expressed by your acne. Look into yourself and try to see what you are saying with your acne.

If you cannot find it, see if you can relate it to constipation. Constipation and a toxic colon is typically the cause of acne. But to go one-step further, all physical illness are created by some emotional unbalance that you are holding onto.

Acne can be a representation of repressed traumas that you have experienced as a child when you were growing up. I know you may not want to hear this. But, Acne can be an expression of those traumas trying to burst out of the repressive mechanisms that your body creates to prevent you from facing these traumas until you are ready to do so.

Some effort has to be make to connect and release these traumas, otherwise as you clear your face these traumas can move to some other parts of your body where they will be unseen and destroy tissue and body functions.

If you have a negative thought, ask yourself this question, “does this thought or idea help me or others become a better person?” If not, then let go of this thought and move on to a better thought and a better place in your life.

Good Luck To You

Follow the 12 steps for getting rid of acne and you will get results. Follow these steps and your face will clear and become smooth and lovable.

Acne Program - Step 10: Vitamins You Should Be Taking

Vitamins

Here are some of the vitamins and minerals you should be taking to help you get rid of acne.

* B6, 25 – 150 mg in a B vitamin complex

* B5 pantothenic acid, 500 – 1000 mg per day

* Vitamin A (water soluble), 50,000 IU – take just before meals. Taking more than 50,000 IU requires a Doctors approval

* Vitamin C, buffered 1000mg three time a day

* Vitamin E, 400 IU two times a day before meals for a total of 800 IU a day.

A word of caution: Do not take more than 50, 000 unit of vitamin A since it can be toxic at higher levels. If you experience any symptoms with 50,000 vitamin back off to 25,000 units.

Minerals

Here are them most important minerals to take when you have acne.

* Calcium Hydroxyapatite Complex – a tablet after each meal.

* Chromium 200 – 500 ugm or micrograms a day

* Mineral electrolytes

* Zinc gluconate 25 – 60 mg a day (zinc is one of the most important nutrient to add to your diet) Zinc works to reduce the male sex hormone dihyrdrotestosterone (DHT), which in excess will produce acne. Do not take over 100 mg unless you consult with a Doctor.

Word of Caution: After you have gain relief from acne, you can discontinue the use of the above supplements and get back to your normal supplementation program. Continual use of high doses of vitamins and minerals will offset you natural body’s chemical balance and is detrimental to your health in the long run.

Other Supplements

There are seven special supplements that you should consider taking that can help you get rid of acne and to improve your overall health. These supplements will improve your immune system and help to clear and prevent future acne. Look at these supplements and take the one or ones

that you feel will give you the most health benefits.

* Oxygen Elements Plus
* Electrolyte Minerals
* Systemic Enzymes
* Digestive enzymes
* Flax Seed Oil
* Lecithin
* Chlorophyll and Lemon

Oxygen Elements Plus (only this nutrient is discussed in this article)

The skin needs plenty of oxygen to keep it clean and free of bacteria. Using a product like Oxygen Elements Plus gives you at least 10-20% more oxygen in your blood. Here’s where to get Oxygen Plus. The plus in this product are added minerals and other nutrients.

Increasing the oxygen in your blood is now a necessity for normal health. Your body needs more oxygen than you presently get from the air you breathe so that your body functions normally.

The amount of oxygen you have in your body that is available to you cells is dependent on many things such as,

* Acid in the body
* Nonfood waste products
* Pathogens in the body

These three items, acid, nonfoods, and pathogens use up your oxygen. The oxygen that is left over is then used for your body’s needs. So the more you have of these three items, the less oxygen you will have to supply your body’s needs. This results in more toxins in the blood and can prevent you having an acne free face.

Acne Program – Step 9 Protein and Other Food to Eat

Eating the right kind of food is what can give you a strong immune system and help you prevent sickness and all kinds of skin blemishes including acne.

Here are some of the foods that can help you overcome the acne on your face or throughout your body.

Protein

Eating excess meat is harmful to your health. Eating too much meat, more than 2-4 ounces per day, has been found to contribute to narrowing of the arteries.

If you do physical labor and are involved in a lot of movement in your work, then you should eat more than 2-4 ounces of protein per day. Just make sure that the meat has a minimum of additives and preservatives.

Remember, meat is high in saturated fat, which blocks the activity of EPA and DHA, which produce prostaglandin and control the activity of your hormones.

Meat and bread is a big contributor to creating constipation. Meat is difficult to digest and many times it will get into the colon partial digested. This condition benefits the bad bacteria and allows them to dominate the colon and create constipation.

Because meat and bread have little fiber, they move slowly in the colon, which leads to constipation and eventually to some type of colon inflammation.

Bad bacteria, decaying meat and other undigested food contribute to the build up of toxic matter in the colon. This is the type of condition you should try to avoid, if you have acne. You need fecal matter in the colon to move regularly and out the rectum, otherwise, toxic matter will build up and end up in your blood stream

Here are the grains you should be eating:

* Brown rice – contain many amino acids that help rebuild skin tissue

* Whole grains – contain folic acid, magnesium, and vitamin E, B vitamins, minerals, and fiber

* Oats – use them in the morning with honey or raisins. Oats have an anti-inflammatory effect on the skin and

help to keep you regular.

Seeds and nuts

* Almonds - Almonds contain protein, the B vitamins, calcium, iron, potassium, magnesium, and phosphorus. Use them as a snack. These small nuts help to build muscles and tissue.

* Flax seeds – These seeds are known for containing plenty of omega 3 oil, an essential oil for life. They also contain fiber when used ground up and put into smoothies. Omega 3 is also an anti-inflammatory oil, which is good for acne.

* Pecans – This is one of the good nuts to eat. It contains Vitamin A, B’s, C, calcium, iron, phosphorus, and potassium. Use them as a snack.

* Pine nuts – these nuts also one of the best to eat. They contain vitamin A, C, B’s, protein and iron.

* Sesame seeds – They are high in calcium, phosphorus, and potassium. They are helpful in relieving various skin diseases such as acne by reducing the swelling.

* Sunflower seeds – These seeds should be used as a snack. They are high in protein, calcium and vitamin A. They provide nutrients for building the whole body and are good for dry skin.

All of these nuts and seeds should be eaten raw. Heating and other processing will kill the life force of the nut or seed and also reduce the quantity of the vitamins and minerals.

Eat these nuts and seeds as snacks. Sesame seeds, sunflower, and flax seeds can be put directly into your blender as you make your smoothies.

Acne Program - Step 8 Vegetables to Eat and Drink

Eating and drinking vegetables is necessary for good health and for keeping your skin free from acne. Most people don't eat enough vegetables and seldom drink their juices. Here is a list of vegetables and their juices that you need to eat and drink daily to help eliminate your acne.

Vegetable juices

Vegetable juices are absorbed quickly into your bloodstream. As a result, your cells are quickly provided with nutrients that feed them and that wash away waste. Vegetable juices give you the opportunity to get quick relief from various body conditions such as acne, skin disorders, and constipation.

Eating and drinking vegetables provide you with minerals and nutrients that build your blood, tissue, bones, and cells. It is minerals that build every part of your body. It is minerals that keep your body's pH at the required level. It is minerals that keep your body alkaline by neutralizing body acids. Concentrate on putting minerals into your body by eating and drinking plenty of fruits and vegetables.

Carrot apple juice

Drink carrot juice every day. I like drinking carrot juice mixed with apple juice. My stomach can handle this combination better.

Carrot juice contains many vitamins and minerals. It is high in beta-carotene. Carrot juice will enhance your skins health and help you eliminate acne.

Carrot, spinach, and apple juice

A combination of carrot, spinach and apple juice is a powerful drink for cleaning the colon, relieving constipation and improving your skin conditions.

To make this drink, juice 3-4 carrots and a bunch of spinach. Then add juiced apples to make this drink more drinkable.

Vegetables

The word phytochemicals is used frequent here. Phytochemicals are all of the chemicals that exist in vegetables and fruits. There are so many phytochemicals that scientists have yet to investigate and learn about all of them.

Here

are the vegetables that you should be eating the most of, so you can support the cleansing of your face and eliminating acne.

* Carrots - contain a rich source of vitamin A-like carotenoids. These phytochemicals have been shown to enhance the health of skin and repair it when it is damaged.
* Cabbage - helps to detoxify the body of harmful chemicals from the air and food additives.
* Celery - helps to reduce nervous tension. It contains many minerals that help to neutralize body acid waste and is high in fiber
* Cucumber - helps to reduce acne problems because it is high in silicon and sulfur. It is also a diuretic which helps flow more water through the kidney to clean out your blood
* Broccoli - is rich in beta carotene, a precursor to vitamin A, which is good for the skin
* Garlic - is a natural antibiotic and will help relieve skin bacterial infections
* Green pepper - The nutrients in green peppers are good for liver health and constipation. Its minerals are good for neutralizing acid waste.
* Radishes - help to digest your food. Good digestion is necessary to avoid constipation and to keep the liver and pancreas strongSprouts - provide plenty of vitamins and minerals, which help to reduce body acids
* Watercress - helps to prevent vitamin and mineral deficiencies at the skin surface. It provides Vitamin A, B1, B2, C, iron, manganese, copper, and calcium.

Look this list of vegetable over, make a list of them, and head for your favorite store, or farmers market. Concentrate in eating and drinking these natural products and you will see results in your health and a decrease in your skin disorders.

Acne Program- Step 3: Relieve Your Constipation with a Three Day Mini-Juice Fast

Getting your bowels moving and cleaning out your colon is necessary for having facial skin without blemishes or acne. By reducing the toxins in your colon, you minimize the toxins that can seep out of your facial pores and contribute to acne.

If you eat 3 meals each day, you should have at least 2 bowel movements a day. If you only have one, then you are short 1 bowel movement.

To get your bowels moving like they should, you need to, clean out what is in your colon right now. So the first day is for cleaning out your colon. The next two days is too keep cleaning the colon and to detoxify the body.

Doing a 3-day mini-fruit juice fast is the best way to start cleaning out the colon, to detoxify the blood, and rejuvenate your body. Just doing a fast for three days is not a cure all and it will require more work on your part by starting to eat more natural foods.

In her extensive book, Coking For Healthy Healing, 1991, Linda Rector-page, N.D., Ph.D., talks about what a fast does,

"Fasting works by self-digestion. During a cleanse, the body in its infinite wisdom, will decompose and burn only the substances and tissue that are damaged, diseased, or unneeded, such as abscesses, tumors, excess fat deposits, and congestive wastes. Even a relatively short fast can accelerate elimination from the liver, kidneys, lungs and skin, often causing dramatic changes as masses of accumulated waste are expelled. Live foods and juices can literally pick up dead matter from the body and carry it away."

Day before the fast

Acne Program - Step 2: Using Acne Face Cream

After you have washed your face with a chemical free soap, use an applicator to dip into Scotty's face cream or you favorite face cream. Place the cream on your face and spread it all around. Massage the cream into your face gently so the skin absorbs the oils in this cream.

These oils will seal the pores and hold the natural moisture of the skin and enhance the curing effects of the cream

You can use the cream 2-3 times a day. It is best to use it after you have cleaned your face in the morning and right before you go to bed. You can also use it during noontime.

You can use Scotty's' cream under your makeup or over your makeup. It will work either way. However, it will work better on a clean face.

You will notice that when you apply the cream it will tingle in areas without sores and may sting in areas of open sores. This will pass and as it does it should reduce the itchiness of any sores.

Scotty's cream has allantoin, which will help to clear acne sores. The oils, vitamin A and E, and minerals in Scotty's will help to feed, rebuild, and rejuvenate your skin. The minerals also help to neutralize the toxic acids that have contaminated and inflamed pores on your face.

During cleansing and fasting, more acid waste may come out of your pores. This is why Scotty's cream will help you to reduce the inflammation and spread your acne.

Tree Tea Oil

To make Scotty's cream or your own cream even more powerful, you can add 5-10 drops of pure tree tea oil to a two-ounce container. You can experiment with the amount to add. You may want to add more drops to provide more tea tree oil for your face. But, do not use more than 15 drops.

Tree tea oil has been found to be effective in various skin disorders. It acts as an antiseptic, antifungal, and antibacterial. This oil helps to bring oxygen to the skin cell, which kills bacteria and fungus and helps to repair damaged skin caused by acne.

Borage Oil

There is one more thing that you can add to Scotty's face cream or your favorite acne cream that will boost its

acne clearing power. This is borage oil. Borage oil contains EPA and DHA, which helps to control excessive hormones that cause the over production of sebum.

It is the adrenal glands that produce streams of androgens during puberty. These large quantities of androgens help to activate bone growth and assist in bringing forth sexual maturity.

A side effect of these androgens is the release of excess oil from the oil glands near the hair follicle. This excess gives rise to

§ black heads
§ white heads
§ pimples
§ cysts

So here's what you can do to make your face cream even more effective,

§ Mix one or two capsules of Borage oil into your cream
§ Do this by cutting the tip off of the Borage oil softgel and squeeze the oil into the cream

There is a new form of EPA and DHA that is available in a product called Neptune Krill Oil (NKO)

Neptune Krill Oil (NKO)

NKO is the new EPA and DHA product, which maybe better to use than Borage Oil. NKO has the omega-3, EPA and DHA in the phospholipid form, which is easier for your cells to absorb compared with Borage oil. Borage oil contains the omega-3, EPA, and DHA in triglyceride form, which is more difficult for cells to absorb.

One other good property of NKO is that is does not have to be refrigerated like Borage. It can be kept in a cool place in your cabinets. However, it does cost more than Borage oil.

Word of Caution: As with all creams and oils, if you get any rash or skin reactions when using them, discontinue their use.

Use a good face cream to help clear your acne. You can boost the power of this cream by adding tree tea oil and borage or NKO oil.

Acne Products Made Affordable

With so many acne products out there, finding the right one for you can be an expensive process. However, it doesn't have to be if you know the right things to look for. When comparing acne products, spend a little less time looking at the marketing hype, and a little more time looking at the ingredients. You will find a lot of these products share the same main active ingredients, and even better, a lot of these ingredients can be purchased separately at much lower prices. While there are a few benefits to patented acne formulations that can help for some, for most people using the right combination of main ingredients is just as effective.

One popular ingredient in some of the leading acne treatments out there, such as Proactiv® and Neutrogena On-The-Spot®, is the antibacterial agent Benzoyl Peroxide. Benzoyl Peroxide, or BP for short, works by attacking the p. acnes bacteria that build up in your pores, and is very effective for most people at clearing up current acne (note that BP does not prevent acne from forming, and acne products based on BP are not being honest if they make this claim). For most cases of acne, purchasing BP alone and applying it is just as effective as using expensive name brand products.

Benzoyl Peroxide is available in a number of concentrations, but higher concentrations are not necessarily more effective for stopping acne. Also, higher concentrations increase the risk of dry skin, so it's best to use a 2.5% or 5% concentration at most. You may notice that some products such as Proactiv also include a moisturizer such as aloe in order to keep your skin from getting too dried out. Following your BP application with an affordable moisturizer is a good way to prevent dryness. BP is so much cheaper by volume when you buy it separately that you will still only spend a fraction of the cost.

Have you ever noticed all the "pore cleansing" and "anti-acne formula" cleansers on the market? The fact is that just about any cleanser will clean your pores. Cleansing is a relatively small part of the battle against acne, as the cause of acne for most people has little at all to do with hygiene (this is one of the big acne myths). However, cleansers designed to stop acne generally offer

little to no benefit over normal cleansers. Save the extra few dollars and buy any affordable cleanser that you like. The only concern you should have is that the cleanser is gentle on your skin will not dry you out. Cleansing too frequently can leave your skin overly dry and susceptible to irritation that can make acne worse.

Perhaps the best step you can take is to supplement your diet with a few key vitamins that will actively prevent future acne from forming. The extremely expensive prescription treatment Accutane® works by decreasing your production of skin oil, eliminating acne for most people. However, there are some very affordable acne vitamins supplements that can have a very similar effect.

The key vitamin you should focus on is vitamin B5, also known as pantothenic acid. Vitamin B5 is a non-toxic and water-soluble vitamin that can increase your metabolism of skin oil, preventing acne from forming. Taking 5 to 10 grams of B5 per day, most users will notice decreased oil within a few weeks, and clear skin soon after. Vitamin B5 does not have any harmful side effects and is safe to take at large doses. The time-release variety may be slightly more expensive, but can save you time and money in the long run since you usually will not need to take as much.

The mineral zinc is another very helpful supplement, as it also aids in balancing your oil levels by regulating the production of your oil glands. Your body does not require too much zinc, and since it is a mineral you should avoid high intakes, but a daily zinc supplement can definitely help. Taking zinc along with vitamin B5 is also a good idea, as B5 aids the body in absorbing zinc.

With a combination of affordable acne products and a few natural supplements, you can have a face free of acne, without being left with a wallet free of cash.

Acne Proactive Solution: Treatment to the Stars

You may have seen the infomercials featuring stars like Jessica Simpson and Vanessa Williams, but is the science behind the acne treatment Proactiv Solution solid? Is it all sales pitch or does this product really work?

With over one half of adult women and one fourth of adult men experiencing some form of adult acne, it is no longer just a problem associated with adolescence.

Acne occurs when a pore or hair follicle gets clogged with oil and bacteria. As more and more oil enters the follicle from the skin, the pore eventually becomes inflamed and turns into a pimple. Pimples can be whiteheads, or small white lesions below the surface of the skin, or blackheads, formed when the trapped oil and bacteria come to the surface of the skin. Both the whitehead and blackhead are considered non-inflammatory acne. Inflammatory acne can take the form of papules, pustules or cysts. These are more serious forms of acne and may cause scarring.

Acne can occur on the face, neck, shoulders, chest and back. Although your teenager may not believe it, acne is not life threatening, but it can lead to scarring, embarrassment and lack of self confidence. Most doctors agree that acne can't be cured. Several strong prescription medications are prescribed for the most severe forms of inflammatory acne, but these often have side effects.

As a solution for acne, Proactiv Solution works by helping to clear existing blemishes and stop new ones from forming, The core system is a three step system combining several different medicines to accomplish these goals. Proactive was developed by two dermatologists trained at Stanford University.

First, the benzoyl peroxide in the renewing cleanser gets down into the pores and

kills the bacteria residing there. Gentle cleansing grains clear the clogs in the pores and help exfoliate the dead skin cells to prevent future clogs.

Next, the toner helps further open the pores and remove the rest of the dead skin cells. The alcohol free formula is gentle and refreshing and helps balance the skin's surface.

Finally, the repairing lotion soothes the skin, provides moisture and treats the pores with micro formulated benzoyl peroxide to protect the skin against future breakouts.

Proactiv doesn't just treat current blemishes, it works to prevent future ones by removing the bacteria and dead skin cells that can accumulate in the pores. Botanical extracts in the formulas leave skin soft and supple without the redness that accompanies most other acne treatments.

It's gentle, effective formula is unique in the industry, and testimonials from many users attest to its effectiveness. The beginning kit is priced at about $40, so it is not prohibitively expensive, although you must order it from the infomercial or online retailers. It is not available in drugstores.

If you have been suffering with acne, you may want to try Proactiv. Not only will you most likely see an improvement in your skin, you'll be in the company of stars like P. Diddy and Jessica Simpson!

Acne Prevention Tips – Maintaining the Skin You Deserve

Acne is an embarrassing and upsetting condition, and long-terms sufferers of the skin condition look forward to the day they find their own acne solution, perhaps courtesy of a few well placed acne prevention tips . There are a multitude of products available to help in clearing up the condition, but information on keeping it at bay can be more difficult to locate. Here are some acne prevention tips to help you keep the clear skin you have worked so hard to obtain.

For former acne sufferers whose skin has cleared, the urge can be to begin trying all kinds of new skin products that were previously unsuitable for your afflicted skin. But one of the most valuable acne prevention tips you will hear is this – resist this urge at all costs. While medicated products might now be overly harsh on your healed skin, it is wise to continue using familiar products: after all, these products were your acne solution in the first place. Your skin will still be quite sensitive, so help keep it clear by using mild products – you might try a non-medicated cleanser in the same line of products.

Another useful acne prevention tip is to treat your clear skin with the same sensitivity that you did your pimpled skin. Unfortunately, skin that is prone to acne can suffer problems later, and the best way to keep pimples at bay is to be as gentle and as nurturing as your skin as

you were when trying to solve your acne problem. Be careful with the makeup products you use, select items that will not clog your pores, leaving you prone to spots.

Most former acne sufferers have a greater respect for their clear skin than those who have been naturally blessed with it, so use this respect to your advantage. Avoid toxins that might compromise the health of your skin, and continue to stay away from the products and foods that caused breakouts while you were hunting for your acne solution. The foods you ingest might not have a direct impact on your acne, but maintaining a healthy body is one of the best acne prevention tips around. A well-nourished body has the best tools to help keep your skin as clear as possible.

They say that prevention is better than cure, so eat well, avoid stress, and stick to a simple, gentle cleansing routine, and hopefully you won’t need that acne solution again.

A few well placed acne prevention tips can be worth their weight in gold.

Acne Prevention - Exercise

Now for the facts. Let's take a look at how to combat acne. The main strategy to use is

prevention where possible and better skincare. Here are several top issues of focus for

each: exercise, cosmetics, diet, hormones, hygiene, medications, shaving, stress.

1. Exercise - Keeping in shape can help fight acne by fighting off negative stress levels

that can come from negative self-esteem and depression. However, some safeguards need to be

in place to ward off acne that can result from your workout routines. First watch which

products you use on your body because you'll most likely be sweating. With any sunscreens

for outdoor workout activities and any make-up or other cosmetics, check for

"noncomedogenic" and "oil-free" on the labels to help prevent pore clogging. And when your

workout is finished, wash the products off as soon as possible, especially if you'll be

going into a steam room or sauna where your pores will be opening up more. You don't want

these lotions and other cosmetics getting into your pores and clogging them up, resulting in

blemishes.

Watch what you put on your body with regards to clothing, sports gear and equipment, too.

For example, tight lycra and nylon exercise outfits might look great in the movies and on

magazine models, but if you are susceptible to acne

problems, avoid these synthetic fabrics

that tend to trap in body moisture and heat resulting in a bacteria frenzy. Instead, choose

loose clothing made of cotton or natural blends to allow more air to get to your skin. And

when you're finished with your workout, get out of clothing wet from perspiration or water

sports. Shower and change into dry, clean clothing. And keep your sports gear and equipment

clean, too. Dirty headgear, for instance, can irritate forehead areas prone to acne

problems. So toss headbands into the washing machine after workout sessions.

Tip: when cleaning your body after a workout, no need to scrub with force and irritate skin.

If possible, wash with medicated soap (check for "exfoliant" on the label) or medicated

wipes from your athletic bag where showers aren't available.

Tip: and when drying with a towel, even if it's during your workout to erase sweat, always

blot instead of rub. That way you avoid grinding excess dead skin, dirt, sweat and other

chemicals into your pores and risking pore-clogging and skin irritation.

Acne -- Prevention And Treatment

Acne is a non-lethal but very uncomfortable skin condition that mainly effects people aged between 12 and 24 but which can effect adults also. It is the most common skin affliction in the United States, it has strong psychological effects as it is highly visible and can cause permanent scarring.

Acne is most common among teenagers. It is caused when excess oil on the skin (which is ordinarily absorbed or let out of the pores) clogs the pores causing sores which are often called pimples, zits or spots. Teenagers often suffer from hormonal imbalance in the oil producing glands during puberty, this can cause too much oil to be produced leading to acne.

Unfortunately acne is most likely to occur on the face, where is very visible and often embarassing. However it also occurs on the neck, back, chest and shoulders.

It is not clear what combination of factors play role in developing acne and why some people never have it, while others seem "subscribed" to it. The main reason for acne is the increase in androgens (male sex hormones), which occurs naturally in both boys and girls during puberty. Pregnancy and contraception pills also affect hormones and can cause acne.

Hormones are not the only factor present in acne formation. Surpisingly, while not really inheritable, acne can be traced along hereditary lines. So a family history of acne can raise the chance of young people in that family contracting it at some point in their puberty. One good measure you can take to prevent acne is to ensure you keep clean. Uncleanliness can be a factor in acne development (although by no means is it the only factor). Humidity and pollution can lead to acne also by blocking pores.

On the other hand, there are many popular myths and delusions about what causes acne. Acne does not occur as a result of

stress, or of eating chocolate and greasy food. Also, acne is not an infectious disease, i.e. it cannot be transmitted by touch or through a sexual intercourse (like Chlamydia ~ which is also a skin disease but is transmitted sexually).
There is no real way to prevent acne -- if it's going to form, it will. Generally all one can do is take steps to stem its development. A visit to a dermatologist is crucial, they can prescribe a solution (which may or may not involve medication).

There are a few rules for coping with acne, firstly it is crucial to keep your face and indeed any areas afflicted by acne clean. It is also important not to squeeze the pimples that form. It may seem like this removes them, but it does not remove the cause of the acne and in fact it leaves the lesions open to infection.

As already mentioned, hygiene is very important for keeping acne under control. When skin is dirty, this places an additional burden on the pores, thus making oil secretion even more difficult. Therefore, it is recommended always to use clean towels (preferably paper ones, since they cannot have been used by somebody else before you) to wipe one~s face. Also, often change your pillowcase, because it is another item that frequently comes into contact with the face.

Using specially designed cleaning lotions can help to remove oil, sweat and acne-producing bacteria from the face, just take care not to scrub your face too hard as this can irritate any pimples on your face and make the acne worse.

Acne Myths, Finally Some Facts

Acne is a common skin condition, which can be extremely mild or quite disfiguring. Having had a rather bad case as a young adolescent, I know the kind of socially embarrassing consequences it can have for the victim but I also remember it being sore and painful, filling my life with discomfort. It lingered a long time until I went to a dermatologist who used a type of freezing process, mechanically removing excessive puss from the lesions in relatively non-painful way. There were also topical notions. The result was total success, without scarring.

Until I went to a dermatologist, though, there was little or no gain in getting rid of this foul condition. I, like other children, were subject to disturbing concepts of its origins. Although this was a long time ago, these myths have stayed around- often causing grave delays in seeking treatment.

One of the myths is that acne is caused by everyday dirt and surface oil on the skin and that the solution is frequent and vigorous washing of the skin. Vigorous washing of the face to cure acne is a myth. The fact is- the problems that have caused chronic acne are deeper, beneath the skin’s surface and that only a mild washing of the face is in order, often accompanied with specific solutions prescribed for treating the acne by a dermatologist. Vigorous washing of the face, particularly with harsh soaps, can lead to a further irritation of the tissue. There is, in part, a bacteriological condition that contributes to acne and it is below the surface.

Another idea is that acne is caused by stress. Scientific research seems to indicate that stress alone probably does not lead to acne, but it may be aggravated by stress. But, unfortunately, acne can result from certain prescriptions that are used

to treat stress. So, if you are on certain drugs related to stress, you should certain talk to your dermatologist, the appropriate type of physician for dealing with this problem. According to Doctor James Fulton, a pioneer in the treatment of acne, lithium, a substance sometimes used in profound psychological disorders, can aggravate an acne condition.
Another myth that can lead to profoundly unpleasant consequences is that one should let acne run its course, “grow out of it.” As I myself know too well, acne can linger for years and get worse and worse. At the end of my experience, my acne was very disfiguring and covered my whole face and part of my neck. It was hard to keep my hands off this uncomfortable, scaly, itchy and sore condition. I was certainly a candidate for scarring. I had a kind of skin emergency and I am glad that my parents were smart enough and lucky enough to get me to the right place at the right time.

Can acne be the consequence of poor nutrition? I think the jury may be out on this one, but, for myself, I came to believe that my excessive eating of chocolate and a lot of sugar products were contributing factors to my acne. But, in my case, I did not see any correlation before my medical treatment and it was clearly medical intervention that helped me. There are certainly many naturopathically oriented practitioners and some medical doctors that share this view, though. Not everything in medicine is a hundred percent clear cut and every acne victim should certainly research all the alternatives.

Acne Medications

Acne is an annoying skin condition that affects people of every age, gender, and race. Few skin conditions are as bothersome and disturbing as acne. The scientific name for the condition is acne vulgaris because acne usually strikes in plainly visible locations such as the face, neck, chest and back. Acne is an age-old problem that has likely been plaguing people for centuries. But there are numerous treatment methods available for this bothersome condition. Read on to learn more about acne, and the herbal, homeopathic, and traditional medications used to treat it.

What is Acne?
Acne is an inflammation of the skin that can be caused by a number of factors. Contact with an oily substance such as mineral oil, vegetable oil, or petroleum is a common cause of acne, as is the use of certain medication, steroids, on the contraceptive pill. However, acne is most often cause by the secretion of androgens. Androgens are sex hormones that are initially secreted at the onset of puberty. They are male hormones but they are secreted by females as well. Androgens stimulate the production of oil from the skin's oil glands. Acne occurs when these oil glands become overactive and the exit from the gland is blocked, causing the oil to build up in the gland and swell. A bacterium called Propionibacterium acnes normally colonizes this swollen gland causing the development of inflammation and pus. In particularly severe cases, the glands may burst into the skin and produce cysts.

Over ninety percent of acne patients respond to acne medication, although the treatment may need to be continued for months or even years. Here are a few of the common herbal, homeopathic, and traditional medications that can be used to treat acne.

Acne Medications

Herbal Medications: Herbs such as chamomile, lavender, juniper, bergamot, dandelion root, and burdock root can be used to reduce toxicity and improve the overall condition of the skin. Echinacea and poke root are often used for their anti-inflammatory properties and red clover may be beneficial for its estrogenic action. Witch hazel has excellent astringent properties and may be very effective on acne. I recommend the skin rejuvenation program at the http://www.acne-answers.org website.

Homeopathic Remedies: For patients with pustules and blind boils, especially on the face, neck, and back, may be helped by Kali brom. Taking selenium internally is often used for acne sufferers with oily skin, blackheads, and pustules. And hepar sulph. is typically used for patients who suffer from pustules that are painful and filled with yellow pus.

Nonprescription Medications can be toxic to the skin over a period of time. (Not Recommended for Use).

Benzoyl peroxide is a common acne treatment. It is an exfoliant and therefore helps to remove dead skin cells from the skin's surface. It also prevents bacteria from multiplying on the skin. It may come in gel, cream, or lotion

form. And it may also be found in combination with sulphur which is another exfoliation agent. Benzoyl peroxide helps to prevent the development of new blemishes and clear up ones that are already present. It needs to be used on a daily basis and may initially cause itching, redness, and dryness. Skin will slowly show improvement over time with continued usage.

Salicyclic Acid: The chemical is very effective in the treatment of blackheads. It can loosen and soften thick, clogged pores. However, it does little to prevent the development of new blemishes.

Retinoic Acid: This medication may be used alone or in combination with a benzoyl peroxide preparation. Retinoic acid is derived from vitamin A, which is an important nutrient in the maintenance of healthy skin. Vitamin A reduces the blockage of oil glands and is therefore very useful in the treatment of whiteheads and blackheads. It can cause itchiness and redness, especially if the skin is exposed to strong amounts of sunlight. As with benzoyl peroxide, retinoic acid needs to be used for an extended period of time (at least six months) and it may be several weeks before any initial improvement is noticed.

Prescription Medications can be toxic to the skin over a period of time. (Not Recommended for Use).

Tetracycline: This antibiotic is the most popular conventional treatment for acne. It may be used alone or in combination with benzoyl peroxide. Food, antacids, iron supplements, and milk can interfere with the absorption of this antibiotic, so it is important to remember to take it alone. This medication must be taken for a minimum of three months, and it often needs to be continued for even longer. It will take at least two months before any improvement is noticed. Other antibiotics may also be prescribed if tetracycline is not effective. These include: trimetoprim-sulfamethoxazole, minocycline, doxycycline, and erythromycin. Antibiotics also kill the good bacteria in your bowel and can cause your teeth to turn gray.

Oral contraceptives: For women with acne who also need birth control, some doctors will prescribe an oral contraceptive that contains either mestranol or ethinylestradiol. These drugs interfere with the androgen hormone that causes acne.

Therapeutic Injections: In severe cases of acne where cysts form, doctors have had some success with injecting steroids directly into the cyst to resolve them.

Isotretinoin: Like the topical retinoic acid, this medication is a derivative of vitamin A and it works to prevent the blockage of oil glands. Blocking the glands does not fix the problem.

Acne Laser Treatments - How They Help With Scarring and Formation of Acne

Acne Laser Treatment - How You Can Now "Do It Yourself" at Home for a Fraction of the Price, and Get the Same Results

There are always new ways to treat acne coming out as the latest and greatest method to treat acne and smooth the skin out to its pre-acne days. Some of these methods are really not effective, and cause consumers to just pour their money down the drain, so to speak, in hopes of finally finding the answer to their acne woes.

Others, like acne laser treatment, are a truly effective and proven way to clear acne, help mend the skin, and help heal scarring and existing acne lesions.

How Does Acne Laser Treatment Treat Scarring and Acne at the Same Time

Lasers work by using various "soft pulsing light" wavelengths and intensities to help "reshape" scar tissue, making raised scars go down, and reducing the redness of the skin around healed acne postules. Home acne lasers actually emit a low, constant frequency of red light which helps to stimulate collagen, making scarring less visible, and helping to stimulate the healing of existing acne, and speed the whole recovery process.

The low light acne home laser does not emit heat and does not hurt or burn your tissues - quite the contrary, you will feel like you've just had a refreshing facial after you use it each time - I did. Not only that, if you have any fine lines or wrinkles, you will notice that they soften with the use of this laser as well.

One particular medical grade home acne laser treatment that uses this technology had the following to report:

1. The home laser device was found to be an effective treatment for acne in the inflammatory stage.

2. Subjects typically would see positive results within 3-6 weeks of starting treatment. The positive results depended largely on consistency and continuity of treatment. Especially in the first few weeks, consistency is key if

you want to see real results from a home laser

3. After 6 Weeks of Laser Treatment:

20% of the patients were completely healed.

50% of the patients showed major improvement.

20% of the patients showed minor improvement.

These are pretty compelling statistics, and I'd say very promising for anyone looking to treat their acne and reduce acne scarring effectively, without countless visits to the dermatologist or a plastic surgeons office for essentially the same treatment.

If You REALLY Want to Get Astounding Results, Take it a Step Further and Combine Laser Therapy with a Natural Oral Remedy

You can achieve even greater and faster success when combining an oral remedy for acne and the laser. This fights acne from both a scarring and healing aspect on the outside, and from an internal standpoint, eradicating impurities and hormonal imbalances which cause the acne in the first place.

Many dermatologists take this two pronged approach, and they will combine a microdermabrasion or laser therapy with an oral antibiotic for maximum results for their patients. Why can't you do the same and get identical results, or even better results than doctor's office treatments?

The fact is, there are other options that are less expensive over the long haul and many times even more effective than medications or special in-office treatments can be. Why not take advantage of this advanced technology?

Acne: Laser, a good therapy for acne without side effects

Laser appears to be a good therapy for acne without side effects. Lasers and light-based systems have become one of the more common modalities to treat a wide variety of skin disorders, including acne vulgaris, during the past ten years.

A lot of patients do not respond adequately or develop side effects with the various oral and topical treatments available for the treatment of acne. Hence, the growing demand by patients who suffered from acne for a faster, safer, and side-effect-free novel therapy.

The Dermatology and Lasers Clinic from Tel Aviv Msq, Caesarea, Israel, studied this concerning situation in order to address the role of light therapy in the armamentarium of treatments for acne vulgaris, to discuss photobiology aspects and biomedical optics, to review current technologies of laser/light-based devices, to review the clinical experience and results, and to outline clinical guidelines and treatment considerations, as they reported.

After a series of clinical trials, results show that 85 per cent of the patients show an important quantitative reduction in at least 50 per cent of their lesions after four biweekly treatments. Approximately 20 per cent of cases demonstrate that acne eradication may reach 90 per cent. Three months after the last treatment, clearance is approximately 70 per cent to 80

per cent. Meanwhile, the non-respondent rate is 15 per cent to 20 per cent.

According to researchers, laser and light-based therapies are a safe and effective modality for the treatment of mild to moderate inflammatory acne vulgaris. After comparing to the effects of oral antibiotics, amelioration of acne by light therapy offers faster resolution and fewer side effects and leads to patient satisfaction. Acne Info 101

If you think you're alone in the struggle to ward off acne, don't fret. It seems that while not everyone suffers from it severely, many-around 85% of people, go through it at some point in their life.

Breakouts vary from person to person. So, instead of giving up, get educated! Here are some tips that you can use to clean up and eventually clear up that beautiful skin!

The skin, being the body's largest organ, is always mending, growing and changing to fit our needs and to keep us healthy. In a way, it's a type of bio-shell, surrounding you and growing with you. In fact, you shed dead skin cells constantly. This constant loss means that about every seven years, your skin has completely molted itself in its entirety.

So, your skin maintains itself with proper cell function and reproduction. In order for you to maintain this delicate balance, you need to be sure to wash your face daily.

To all intents and purposes, you should actually wash with soap and rinse well two or more times per day. Rinsing thoroughly is probably the most important step, even if soap is not available, especially after intense exercise.

Moreover, another way to take care of the skin on your face, neck, back and shoulders is to be sure that you wash your hair frequently. You hair releases oils constantly. This oil

naturally glides down the forehead onto the face, and from the neck onto the back. This is a real concern during humid weather and elevated outdoor temperatures.

Men really need to experiment when shaving. Using an electric razor or a razor with shaving cream can affect the skin. Find out which is the better option for you. Be sure to keep your razors clean, lather-up well and use quality shaving cream and/or soap.

In the same fashion, women who wear makeup also need to be careful not to use products that irritate the skin. If you are undergoing acne treatment, especially with topical products, makeup might actually irritate the more. If you still feel the need to use facial products during treatment, be sure to use noncomedogenic (oil free) products.
